Here at MacChap we hope that if you visit one of our Sunday services you will feel welcome, but we know that sometimes visiting a new church can be a bit daunting. We want to help you get past the nerves and feel comfortable when visting, and hope that the following tips will help. If you have any other questions (and can’t find the answer somewhere else on this website) please get in contact with us throughout the week. We would love to talk to you!
When are services?
We have 3 services on a Sunday: 8:30am, 10:30am, 6:30pm. Over the Christmas/New Year period we combine our morning services but there will be a notice about that on the home page of the website if that is the case.
What should I wear?
At MacChap we want you to feel comfortable when you are with us, no matter what you are wearing. Some people still put on their “Sunday best” but most of us dress more casually.
Where will my kids go?
On most Sundays we have a MacKids program, which is lead by a wonderful team of teachers. You can find out more about MacKids here. Our leaders are keen to help children learn more about God in a way that is age-appropriate and fun. They also complete child protection training. Please introduce yourself to one of the leaders and bring your children to MacKids is they want to come.
On the Sundays when we don’t have MacKids we provide activity packs for children under 10.
If you are visiting and your children want to stay with you that is fine too. If they get bored there is a play room/crèche at the back of the church and also a cry/feeding room you can use.
Am I expected to put money in the offering?
We encourage those who consider MacChap their church home to give faithfully to God’s work in our church and beyond as an act of faith and worship. The bulk of the finances that we raise are used to support the ministries of MacChap but we also want to be generous and give at least 10% of our giving to mission work in Australia and beyond.
If you are visiting with us, we don’t expect you to put money in the offering.
What happens after the services?
At MacChap we want to be a community that connects throughout the week as well as on a Sunday. After each of our services there is time to catch up with each other, enjoy a snack or a cup of tea or coffee. Often before the 6.30 we also fire up the coffee machine.
On the 1st Sunday of every month we celebrate community and eat together at our Breaking Bread morning, lunches and dinners.
When do you celebrate the Lord’s Supper?
On our Breaking Bread Sundays (the 1st Sunday of every month) we remember the hope and freedom we have because Jesus Christ died and rose again. One way that we do this is to celebrate the Lord’s Supper (or Communion). We encourage all people who have put their trust in this truth to share with us this simple but deeply symbolic time.
